Part III: How I built a simple, one-man digital marketing agency and made $120,000 in 2022 working just 4 hours a week
Closing your first client and getting them results.
Welcome to the third and final installment of our “one-man digital marketing agency” guide. Subscribe for more content — I delve into topics like scaling ads, more complex automation to run your business passively and sales calls.
Step 8: The One Call Close
It’s finally happening. Your first leads are flowing in and scheduling via Calendly. If you set up your automation correctly, you’ll automatically get text and email notifications on your Google calendar and your Calendly. Your only job right now is to get these people on the phone. There’s nothing wrong with texting them from your iMessage right then and there to say, “hey thanks for sending over your information, looking forward to speaking with you”. This adds a subtle but effective layer of trust since everyone else, especially scammers, uses text automation systems with green text.
Remember, the reason to start with a straight-up “product + price” ad is to decrease the amount of back and forth with a client. On the call, don’t mince words. I explicitly tell them exactly what I do for them, I don’t over-promise anything, they already know the price so I quickly reiterate everything in the ad and then I ask when they can start their 5-7 day no obligation trial started. If you’re nervous, write out a script.
My next post will narrow in on this “one-call close” concept and how it cuts out much of the time spent customizing and tailoring “marketing services” to a client. I barely do a proposal, I just send over an agreement.
This is how a call usually goes - I’ll be recording a live sales call this week and putting out a new post with my one-call close.
